Bulk Billing Optometrist

As a family eyecare provider, we understand that budget can be a concern which is why we provide the following information on bulk billing, pension concessions, Zip Pay and other options.

Medicare and Bulk Billing

Medicare benefits/bulk billing are payable for most consultations.

At time of writing:

Medicare card holders aged 65 and over, are eligible for a bulk-billed eye test every year.
If you are under the age of 65 and a Medicare card holder, a bulk billing optometrist appointment for an eye test is available every 3 years. Should you book a full comprehensive eye test within 3 years of your last full eye health test the fee is $75, with Medicare issuing a partial rebate on that amount.
Referrals to specialists if required are part of your consultation and do not incur a charge.
Some family eyecare services are not yet covered by Medicare or Private Health funds, such as:
- Digital Retinal Imaging $40.00
- OCT Scan $75.00
- Visual Therapy $150.00
- Visual Perception $150.00
- Vision Builder Program $250.00
- Shooting/ Target Sports Vision Assessment $150.00
- Colour blindness consultation $150.00
- Contact lens fit & teach $165.00 for patients who have not worn contacts (if not eligible through Medicare)
- Reports are Complimentary

Concessions

Veterans Affairs

Spectacles are provided at no cost for patients covered by Veterans Affairs from a selected range. Your eye test will be covered by Veteran Affairs, please discuss when making your appointment if you need your referral updated. Additional costs will be discussed with you at the time of your eye test, if further treatment is required.

Please bring along to your appointment: your GP details, Veterans Affairs Card, and details of any medications taken.

Pensioners & Disadvantaged

Concessions on optometry services may be available for eligible pension card holders and disadvantaged patients.

Our Brisbane Optometry practice is an authorised business to provide Government Spectacles to eligible patients – more information is available on the Queensland Government website. Please talk to our staff if this is of interest to you, and they will explain eligibility requirements and how to make an application. A $20 admin fee applies.

Zip Pay

While we offer bulk billing optometrist checkups – what about the cost of glasses?

As a member of Eyecare Plus, we provide Zip Pay so you can get your glasses now and pay them off over time.

No deposit is required, making it a more budget-friendly way to manage your family eyecare needs.
